Congratulations on your engagement!
Now that you've started planning your wedding you're probably wondering "how far in advance should we order our wedding cake?". Below is a guideline most bakeries follow.
6-9 months before your wedding is when you should typically begin making inquiries to a baker and begin discussing your dream cake design as well as the date of your event, venue, flavor profiles, guest count and costs.
4-6 months before your wedding is when your cake tasting appointment should be scheduled. This is also a good time to review what elements (flowers, ribbons, sugar art elements, cake stand choice, etc.) will be on the cake. You have the option at this point to book your chosen baker and place your deposit.
2-3 months before your wedding is when you should obtain the elements you will have on your cake such as your cake topper, ribbons and any other non-edible elements that your baker requires you to supply. If you are having fresh flowers on your cake, you will need to discuss this with your florist to ensure your florist knows to add this to your order and that they will be available to the baker at the venue for the setup process. If there are any changes to the cake order, you will need to notify your baker at this point.
2-3 weeks before your wedding is when you and your baker will confirm the delivery details of your big day. One thing to keep in mind is that any changes made to the cake at this time could incur additional charges as most bakers have already begun working on your cake.
Wedding Day! Your cake will arrive at the venue one to two hours prior to the start of your ceremony. This allows the baker time to stack the cake as they will arrive in several boxes.
Your top tier should be carefully wrapped in plastic wrap and placed in the bakery box provided by your baker and placed in the back of your freezer for you to enjoy on your first anniversary.
